The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences hosted the annual Emerging Researcher Conference on Saturday, 5 November 2022. The theme of this years conference was Driving smart, innovative and responsive research for sustainable economic development. The Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Management under the supervision of Mr Emmanuel Esambe was represented by Nday Yves Wa Numbi registered for the Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship as well as Xatyiswa Salukazana registered for the Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship Management.   Entrepreneurship academic stars rewarded ACHIEVEMENT: Lecturer Cecily Cridland and Prof Robertson Tengeh, Head of Entrepreneurship and Business Management, congratulate a student for excelling in first-year studies. The  Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Management  recently hosted an awards ceremony to acknowledge students who excelled in their first-year studies in 2018. The top 10 students in the mainstream programme were: Nzengo Lutumba (76%), Karl Abrahams (73%), Nolitha Gcado (70%), Qhamani Vena (70%), Nosiphiwo Gabuza (69%), Zandile Mbane (69%), Unathi Mpande (69%), Sibabalo Mdingi (68%), Mputhumi Nikelo (68%) and Sulaiman Roberts (68%). In the Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) the following students came up in the top five: Karabo Namanyane (65%), Lelethu Nobete (64%), Mava Nomnga (64%), Noluvo Mpatha (62%) and Sisipho Tsheke (62%). Another interview with one of our ‘brag’ points – Dr Thobekani Lose

We were lucky to corner Dr Thobekani ‘Thobs’ Lose for a quick interview. Interestingly, he didn’t aim at Entrepreneurship because he thought it was a ‘cheap’ course.  Today, Dr Lose heads the SEDA’s Rapid Incubator at the Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape, South Africa. My takeaway from the interview is this quote of his: “crisis is the incubator for creativity’.  How apt can this be for a time like this when everyone is scampering for safety owing to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19?
