2010 comes to an end

Hi,
It’s another year end. 2010 is just about to wrap up. At the beginning of this year, many of us must have drawn up a long list of plans. As it is common with each new year,  expectations are high and on the basis of those expectations, we denounce old habits and then imbibe new ones. These old habits, often times, are seen as deterrents. Then the new year kicks off and we start to push for our plans to be realised. These are normally called new year resolutions. As sad as this may sound, 80% of us end up not sticking to those resolutions. Those who do, find out bitterly in the middle of the year that kicking those habits did not really help. In fact many of us end up not even achieving the goals we set for ourselves.

Let me inform you: it may not have been your fault. So do not beat yourself to death. For lack of trying I would say go ahead and beat yourself up. But if you tried to pursue your goals and did not succeed, tell yourself, ANOTHER YEAR WILL SOON BE HERE AGAIN!

This academic year soon comes to an end. And I know a few folks who are fervently looking forward to it - what with the rush to do exams, mark scripts and all of that for the Soccer World Cup. After the Soccer World Cup, most academics didn't find things easy as once again, they were rushed to meet with the calendar of the university. A colleague said to me a few days back, 'I can't wait to stop coming here. I am totally drained.' I bet she is probably speaking for all of us.

As 2010 ends, let me share the following blessings with you.

In 2011, may …
q       you and your family experience prosperity and may favour overwhelm your endeavours
q       every day in the New Year bring you success and purpose
q       those who laughed at you come to laugh with you
q       you have visions that are clear, virtues that are right and missions that are accomplishable.
q       you not lack counsel and ideas
q       you have eyes that see, ears that hear and a heart that understands. In place of breakdown may you experience breakthroughs
q       you rise above every obstacle and be carried on the wings of an eagle

And as I would always tell my students, now get out there and have a blast!
